RESUME

    Mika Moon a toujours – enfin, presque toujours – respecté trois grandes règles. Cacher sa magie (dans les vidéos qu'elle poste en ligne, elle fait juste semblant d'être une sorcière). Faire profil bas (après tout, qu'est-ce que 14 000 abonnés ?). Et rester à l'écart des autres sorcières (sauf à l'occasion de leur sacro-sainte réunion trimestrielle). La jeune femme a donc pris l'habitude d'être seule et a même passé le plus clair de sa vie d'adulte à déménager en prenant garde de ne jamais s'attacher à qui que ce soit.

    Un jour, pourtant, elle reçoit une intrigante offre d'emploi : devenir la professeure particulière de trois jeunes sorcières dans une mystérieuse propriété du Norfolk baptisée la Maison de Nulle Part. Et voilà qu'en un coup de baguette magique (et contre toutes les règles élémentaires de sorcellerie), elle se retrouve bientôt mêlée aux secrets de ses quatre hôtes, aussi excentriques qu'attentionnés. Parmi eux, Jamie, bibliothécaire irlandais grincheux mais contre toute attente attirant, est prêt à tout pour défendre ses trois petites protégées. Or, à ses yeux, la nouvelle venue est une menace – une menace incroyablement irritante...

    Alors que Mika commence enfin à s'ouvrir aux autres, l'idée d'avoir trouvé une famille – une vraie –, et peut-être même plus, fait peu à peu son chemin dans son esprit. Mais la magie est imprévisible... et si toute cette histoire n'était qu'une bombe prête à exploser ?

    La société très secrète des sorcières extraordinaires est un roman plein de douceur. Ses personnages sont tous très attachants à commencer par Mika Moon, notre principale protagoniste. Jeune femme moderne, qui essaye de naviguer dans un monde où il est difficile de trouver sa place, surtout lorsque l'on est différent, Mika est courageuse, généreuse et sincère. Elle nous est immédiatement sympathique. Les habitants de la Maison de Nulle Part que Mika va rencontrer le sont tout autant. On adore voir les liens qui se tissent entre les différents personnages. Ce roman traite en effet beaucoup plus de famille que de magie. Il est plein d'espoir. L'écriture n'est pas exceptionnelle mais c'est un vrai cocon chaleureux et réconfortant parfait pour cette saison de l'année. 

SUMMARY

    As one of the few witches in Britain, Mika Moon knows she has to hide her magic, keep her head down, and stay away from other witches so their powers don’t mingle and draw attention. And as an orphan who lost her parents at a young age and was raised by strangers, she’s used to being alone and she follows the rules...with one exception: an online account, where she posts videos "pretending" to be a witch. She thinks no one will take it seriously.

    But someone does. An unexpected message arrives, begging her to travel to the remote and mysterious Nowhere House to teach three young witches how to control their magic. It breaks all of the rules, but Mika goes anyway, and is immediately tangled up in the lives and secrets of not only her three charges, but also an absent archaeologist, a retired actor, two long-suffering caretakers, and…Jamie. The handsome and prickly librarian of Nowhere House would do anything to protect the children, and as far as he’s concerned, a stranger like Mika is a threat. An irritatingly appealing threat.

    As Mika begins to find her place at Nowhere House, the thought of belonging somewhere begins to feel like a real possibility. But magic isn't the only danger in the world, and when peril comes knocking at their door, Mika will need to decide whether to risk everything to protect a found family she didn’t know she was looking for....

MY THOUGHTS

    The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches is a novel full of warmth. Its characters are all very endearing, starting with Mika Moon, our main protagonist. A modern young woman trying to navigate a world where it is difficult to find her place, especially when you are different, Mika is courageous, generous and sincere. We immediately like her. The inhabitants of the Nowhere House that Mika encounters are just as likeable. We love seeing the bonds that form between the different characters. This novel is actually much more about family than magic. It is full of hope. The writing may not be exceptionnal but it's a truly comforting cocoon perfect for this time of the year.
