Synopsis

Dans un restaurant de Tel-Aviv, une femme fait exploser une bombe qu'elle dissimule sous sa robe de grossesse. Toute la journée, le docteur Amine, israélien d'origine arabe, opère les nombreuses victime de l'attentat. Au milieu de la nuit, on le rappelle d'urgence à l'hôpital pour lui annoncer que la kamikaze est sa propre femme. Refusant de croire à cette accusation, Amine part en Palestine pour tenter de comprendre. 

Ce que j'en ai pensé

Choquant et puissant, ce film est véritablement bouleversant ! Basé sur un roman de Yasmina Khadra (auteur des Hirondelles de Kaboul), ce film raconte l'histoire d'une femme "normale" qui un jour décide de commettre un attentat-suicide.  Un sujet choc ! Mais le personnage principal n'est pas cette jeune femme mais son mari, un éminent docteur qui ne comprend pas les raisons qui ont poussé sa femme à commettre un crime pareil : parmi les 17 victimes de l'attentat se trouvaient 11 enfants qui étaient en train de fêter un anniversaire. D'abord dans le déni, il reçoit une lettre que sa femme avait envoyée avant de mourir qui lui confirme que c'est bien elle la coupable. Il s'en va alors en Palestine chez sa famille pour comprendre et pour rencontrer les gens qui ont poussé sa femme à commettre cet attentat. Il ne veut pas croire qu'elle a pris cette décision de son plein gré et pense qu'elle a été manipulée. Lorsqu'il arrive en Palestine, c'est une toute autre vision du conflit qui lui apparaît : les Palestiniens considèrent sa femme comme une martyr ; des photos d'elle sont affichées partout dans les rues. Amine comprend alors que le conflit est bien plus complexe et qu'il dépasse tout le monde. 

Un film fort, rempli d'émotions qui nous montre que le conflit est complexe et qu'il n'y pas forcément d'un côté les bons et de l'autre les méchants. Bien que je continue à penser à la fin du film qu'elle n'aurait jamais dû commettre cet attentat-suicide car elle a ainsi tué des innocents, ce film nous ouvre les yeux sur les souffrances que vivent les peuples opprimés qui les mènent à faire des choses horribles.

My thought

Shocking and powerful, this film is truly distressing! Based upon a novel by Yasmina Khadra, this film told us the story of a "normal" woman who one day, decides to commit a suicide bombing. A subject shock! But the principal character isn't the woman but her husband, an eminent surgeon who doesn't understand the reason for her act: among the 17 victims, 11 were children who were celebrating a birthday. First in denial, he receives a letter her wife sent him before her death which confirms the guilt of the woman. Afterwards, he goes in Palestine at his family's to try to understand and to meet the people who made her wife commit that crime. Indeed, he doesn't want to believe she took that decision of her own accord and he thinks she was manipulated. When he arrives in Palestine he discovers a whole new vision of the conflict: the Palestinian consider his wife as a martyr and her photography is displayed everywhere. Amine understands that the conflict is far more complex and that is beyond everybody. 

A strong film, full of emotions which shows us that the conflict is complex and that there are necessarily the good on one side and the wicked on the other side. Though I still think at the end of the film she should not have committed that suicide bombing because she killed innocent, this film opens our eyes to the sufferings experienced by oppressed people which lead them to do horrible things.
