Résumé

Calcutta, 1916. Dès leur naissance, les jumeaux Sheere et Ben sont séparés par un drame. Sheere est confiée à sa grand-mère et Ben mis à l'abri dans un orphelinat, où il va grandir, entouré de six fidèles amis avec qui il fonde une fraternité secrète : la Chowdar Society. 

Le jour même de leurs seize ans, Ben et sa sœur sont enfin réunis ; mais une ombre maléfique se déchaîne alors. Quelle est cette force qui s'attaque ainsi aux jumeaux ?

Ce que j'en ai pensé

Carlos Ruis Zafon signe ici encore un chef d’œuvre. Sa plume merveilleuse, sensible et imagée nous accompagne au fil des pages dans les mystères de Calcutta. La ville nous apparaît inquiétante, embrumée et remplie de noirs secrets. Le Palais de minuit, c'est l'amitié, le sacrifice de soi, la famille, la solidarité et l'amour mais aussi la folie, la souffrance et la cruauté. Les personnages complexes et profonds sont touchants. L'histoire est à la fois belle et terrible, obscure et lumineuse. Carlos Ruis Zafon nous livre un roman porteur d'enseignements. Il nous montre comment les souffrances de la vie peuvent faire sombrer un homme dans la folie. Pour conclure, Le Palais de minuit est un roman magnifique, profond, émouvant qui mérite d'être lu et relu comme tous les romans de Carlos Ruis Zafon.

Summary

Set in Calcutta in the 1930s, The Midnight Palace begins on a dark night when an English lieutenant fights to save newborn twins Ben and Sheere from an unthinkable threat. My thought

Carlos Ruis Zafon sign again a masterpiece. His marvelous, sensitive and colorful pen accompanies us through the pages in the mysteries of Calcutta. The city appears to us disturbing, misty and full of dark secrets. The Midnight Palace is synonym of friendship, self-sacrifice, family, solidarity and love but also of madness, suffering and cruelty. The profound and complex characters are touching. The story is both beautiful and terrible, dark and light. Carlos Ruis Zafon has written an instructive novel.  He shows us how the suffering of life can sink a man into madness. To conclude, The Midnight Palace is a wonderful, profound, mooving which deserves to be read like all the novels written by Carlos Ruis Zafon.
