Désormais Prenna doit se fondre dans la société en suivant des règles strictes. Mais tout bascule lorsqu'elle tombe amoureuse d'Ethan...

Ce que j'en ai pensé

Ici et maintenant, c'est avant tout et surtout une histoire d'amour. Une histoire d'amour intemporelle entre Prenna, fraîchement débarquée d'un futur apocalyptique ravagé par une pandémie et Ethan, un natif du temps présent. Un amour impossible car Prenna vit dans une communauté aux règles strictes qui interdisent par exemple toute relation intime avec une personne ne faisant pas partie de la communauté sous peine de mettre en danger l'humanité. Ce roman est porté par la voix de Prenna qui se voit confronter à un dilemme qui relève des tragédies grecques : choisir entre son amour et le devoir. Ce roman transpose un thème vu et revu depuis des siècles dans une intrigue complexifiée par la problématique du temps et des voyages temporels. Ces derniers donnent la possibilité de changer le futur mais peut-on véritablement changer le cours du temps ? Je trouve que jouer avec le temps est un exercice complexe et abstrait mais l'auteure s'en sort très bien en mettant au premier plan l'intrigue amoureuse. Un roman doux, sensible, touchant avec du suspense et de l'action. Un roman que j'ai beaucoup aimé donc et que je vous conseille. 

Summary

This is the story of seventeen-year-old Prenna James, who immigrated to New York when she was twelve. Except Prenna didn’t come from a different country. She came from a different time—a future where a mosquito-borne illness has mutated into a pandemic, killing millions and leaving the world in ruins.
Prenna and the others who escaped to the present day must follow a strict set of rules: never reveal where they’re from, never interfere with history, and never, ever be intimate with anyone outside their community. Prenna does as she’s told, believing she can help prevent the plague that will one day ravage the earth.

But everything changes when Prenna falls for Ethan Jarves. 

My thought

The here and now is first and foremost a love story. A timeless love story between Prenna, just arrived from an apocalyptic future ravaged by a pandemic and Ethan, a native of the present. An impossible love because Prenna lives in a community with strict rules that prohibit such intimate relationship with a person that is not part of the community, this kind of relationship failing to endanger humanity. This novel is carried by the voice of Prenna who is confronted with a dilemma that comes from Greek tragedies: choosing between her love and duty. This novel transposes a theme seen and reviewed for centuries in a plot complicated by the time issue with time travels. These last give the opportunity to change the future, but can we really change the course of time? I find playing with time is complex and abstract, but the author is doing it  very well by putting in the foreground the amorous intrigue. A gentle novel, sensitive, touching with suspense and action. A novel I enjoyed a lot and that I recommend.
