Synopsis

Entre fiction et réalité, AMERICAN BLUFF nous plonge dans l’univers fascinant de l’un des plus extraordinaires scandales qui ait secoué l’Amérique dans les années 70.  Un escroc particulièrement brillant, Irving Rosenfeld, et sa belle complice, Sydney Prosser, se retrouvent obligés par un agent du FBI, Richie DiMaso, de nager dans les eaux troubles de la mafia et du pouvoir pour piéger un homme politique corrompu, Carmine Polito. Le piège est risqué, d’autant que l’imprévisible épouse d’Irving, Rosalyn, pourrait bien tous les conduire à leur perte…

Ce que j'en ai pensé

Ce film est étourdissant. Les personnages sont complétement délirants. Hystériques même. J'ai parfois eu un peu de mal à suivre entre l'escroc malade, sa petite amie et associée possessive et mythomane, sa femme déjantée et imprévisible, l'agent du FBI à la fois ambitieux et complètement cinglé... Bref, des personnages fous qui rendent cette histoire assez abracadabrante et très kitsch. Je n'ai pas réussi à m'attacher aux personnages ni à vraiment apprécier l'histoire. Je ne suis pas sûre d'avoir compris tous les tenants et aboutissants de l'intrigue et je me suis perdue dans le cortège de personnages qui interviennent dans ce film, entre les quatre personnages principaux, leurs victimes, les mafieux, les collègues du FBI, etc. En bref, j'ai trouvé ce film trop loufoque, trop exubérant. Cependant, je dois avouer que j'ai trouvé la prestation des acteurs assez bluffante. Jennifer Lawrence pour ne citer qu'elle est juste incroyable. Elle incarne magnifiquement son personnage : une femme délaissée, égocentrique, déséquilibrée, provocatrice et profondément immature en fait. Déjantée, elle est très amusante. Et je crois que c'est le personnage qui m'a le plus plu. Autre point positif : la bande-son qui contribue grandement à cette atmosphère particulière de l'Amérique des années 70. Les costumes également sont très recherchés. C'est kitsch mais ça correspond parfaitement à l'atmosphère du film. Une atmosphère qui reste pour moi beaucoup trop fiévreuse et qui m'a donné mal à la tête.

My thought 

This film is deafening. The characters are completely delirious. Even hysterical. I sometimes had a little trouble following the film between the sick crook, his possessive girlfriend who is also a pathological liar, his crazy and unpredictable wife, the FBI agent both ambitious and completely nuts ... In short, crazy characters that make this story an abracadabrant and very kitsch one. I have not managed to endeavor to the characters or to really appreciate the history. I'm not sure I understand all the ins and outs of the plot and I got lost in the procession of characters involved in this film, between the four main characters, their victims, the Mafia, the FBI colleagues, etc. In brief, I found the film too wacky, too exuberant. However, I must admit that I found quite impressive the actors' performance. Jennifer Lawrence only to mention her is just amazing. She embodies her character beautifully: a forsaken, egocentric, unbalanced, provocative and actyally deeply immature woman. She's quite funny I've to say. If I had one favorite character in this all film, it would be her. Another positive point is the soundtrack that contributes to the special atmosphere of the America of the 70's. To which the costumes also participate. It's kitschy but it perfectly matches the atmosphere of the film. An atmosphere that remains for me too feverish and that has given me a headache.
