SYNOPSIS

Tally Youngblood attend avec impatience comme tous les jeunes de son âge l'intervention chirurgicale qui la rendra Pretty et lui permettra de rejoindre la ville et ses plaisirs. Mais alors qu'approche la date fatidique, des doutes s'élèvent. Existerait-il une autre voie ? 

CE QUE J'EN AI PENSE

J'avais lu cette série de livres quand j'étais au collège que j'avais beaucoup aimée. J'étais donc très enthousiaste à l'idée de replonger dans cet univers. Mes souvenirs ne sont pas très précis et je ne peux donc discuter de la fidélité du film au roman. L'histoire m'a toujours autant plu avec le conflit entre le beau artificiel et le beau naturel, entre la dominance de l'homme et le retour à la nature. Cependant, le film développe peu la psychologie des deux camps et il en ressort un film assez manichéen. C'est dommage car les enjeux mieux détaillés rendraient cette dystopie beaucoup plus intéressante. Il reste que ce film est plaisant à regarder. Les personnages sont attachants. La réflexion qu'Uglies ouvre reste pertinente. Cela aurait mérité plus de développement. Un bon divertissement mais qui manque de finesse psychologique.

Tally Youngblood, like all young people her age, is looking forward to the operation that will make her Pretty and allow her to return to the city and its pleasures. But as the fateful date approaches, doubts arise. Could there be another way? 

MY THOUGHTS

I had read this series of books when I was at secondary school and really enjoyed them. So I was very enthusiastic about the idea of returning to this universe. My memories aren't very clear, so I can't say how faithful the film is to the novel. I still liked the story, with its conflict between artificial beauty and natural beauty, between the dominance of man and the return to nature. However, the film does little to develop the psychology of the two sides and the result is a rather Manichean film. It's a shame, because more detailed issues would make this dystopia much more interesting. Nevertheless, the film is still pleasant to watch. The characters are endearing. The thinking behind Uglies remains relevant. It would have deserved more development. A good entertainment but it lacks psychological finesse.
