Synopsis

Dans le New York des années 1950, Therese, jeune employée d’un grand magasin de Manhattan, fait la connaissance d’une cliente distinguée, Carol, femme séduisante, prisonnière d'un mariage peu heureux. À l’étincelle de la première rencontre succède rapidement un sentiment plus profond. Les deux femmes se retrouvent bientôt prises au piège entre les conventions et leur attirance mutuelle.

Ce que j'en ai pensé

Je suis allée le voir au cinéma en VOST et je l'ai beaucoup aimé. Ce film est très subtil, tout en expressions du visage, en sentiments muets. Cate Blanchett est juste incroyable, elle occupe l'écran, elle incarne son personnage à la perfection, une femme riche, mystérieuse, qui semble très détachée du monde, qui semble souvent ailleurs et qui pourtant porte un regard intense sur les gens à qui elle parle comme si elle les dominait complètement. Face à elle, Rooney Mara. Cette dernière est écrasée par la performance de Cate Blanchett, ce qui correspond bien à son personnage, une jeune femme éthérée, qui ne sait pas ce qu'elle veut, qui dit oui à tout, qui laisse les autres décider pour elle. J'aime beaucoup l'atmosphère du film, très vintage, pleine de douceur et de délicatesse. Je trouve que ce film est particulièrement bien filmé avec des plans originaux et très bien conçus qui font de ce film un film très intimiste et qui rendent parfaitement le New York des années 1950 avec une image grainée. Le seul reproche que l'on pourrait faire à ce film sont les longueurs. Certaines scènes où il ne se passe rien sont très longues. Mais je dois dire que cela contribue également à donner cette atmosphère très douce au film. Je vous invite donc à aller voir Carol, c'est vraiment un film très intéressant, très touchant.

My thought

 I went to see this film in English with French subtitles and I liked it very much. This film is very subtle, all is in the facial expressions, in silent feelings. Cate Blanchett is just amazing, she catches the screen really, she embodies her character to perfection, a rich, mysterious woman who seems very detached from the world, who often seems to be very far from reality and yet she carries an intense look on people she speaks too as if she dominated them completely. In front of her, there's Rooney Mara. The latter is crushed by the performance of Cate Blanchett, which corresponds well in fact to her character, an ethereal young woman, who does not know what she wants, who says yes to everything, who lets others decide for her. I love the atmosphere of the film, with that vintage vibe, full of sweetness and delicacy. I think this film is particularly well filmed with original plans and well designs that make this film a very intimate one that perfectly give the atmosphere of the 1950s' New York with an embossed image. The only criticism one could make are the lengths. Some scenes where nothing happens are very long. But I must say that this also contributes to this very soft atmosphere to the film. I invite you to go see Carol, it's truly a very interesting movie, very touching.
