Synopsis

James Donovan, un avocat de Brooklyn se retrouve plongé au cœur de la guerre froide lorsque la CIA l’envoie accomplir une mission presque impossible : négocier la libération du pilote d’un avion espion américain U-2 qui a été capturé. 

 

Ce que j'en ai pensé

 Un superbe film. Fort. Intense. D'autant plus touchant qu'il s'agit d'une histoire vraie. L'histoire se passe pendant la Guerre Froide : un avocat américain se voit charger de négocier un échange de prisonniers, un espion soviétique contre un pilote américain. Tom Hanks incarne un avocat charismatique, courageux, altruiste, humain. Un personnage très attachant. Un autre personnage que j'ai beaucoup aimé également : celui de l'espion soviétique, incarné par Mark Rylance. Un personnage digne, intelligent, avec un humour très pince-sans-rire. Un personnage fort lui aussi, très attachant également. Ce sont véritablement ces deux figures d'hommes qui portent le film et nous emportent avec eux dans cette période trouble où deux pays s'affrontent, deux puissances, deux idéologies et au cœur de ce conflit, des hommes. Des hommes qui se ressemblent, qui se battent pour leur pays mais qui se ressemblent car ils sont humains. Nous découvrons, avec l'avocat américain. La construction du mur. Les familles séparées. Les tentations de passage de l'Ouest à l'Est violemment réprimées. La misère et les murs éventrés des bâtiments de Berlin-Est qui n'ont pas été reconstruits après la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Nous attendons avec anxiété le dénouement de ces négociations incertaines. Un très très beau film que je vous invite à regarder. Vous ne pourrez pas rester insensible.

During the Cold War, an American lawyer is recruited to defend an arrested Soviet spy in court, and then help the CIA facilitate an exchange of the spy for the Soviet captured American U2 spy plane pilot, Francis Gary Powers. 

My thought

 A superb film. Strong. Intense. Even more touching since it is a true story. The story is set during the Cold War: an American lawyer has to negotiate a prisoner exchange, a Soviet spy against an American pilot. Tom Hanks plays a charismatic lawyer, courageous, selfless, human. A very endearing character. Another character that I loved also is that of the Soviet spy, played by Mark Rylance. A character worthy, intelligent, with a very tongue-in-cheek humor. A strong character too, also very endearing. These are truly the two figures of men who carry the film and take us with them in this troubled time when two countries are opposed, two powers, two ideologies and in the heart of this conflict, men. Men who are alike, who are fighting for their country but are alike because they are human. We discover, with the US attorney, the city of Berlin. The construction of the wall. The separated families. People who try to runaway from East killed before they can reach the West. The misery and the ripped walls of buildings in East Berlin that were not rebuilt after World War II. We wait anxiously for the outcome of these uncertain negotiations. A very beautiful film that I invite you to watch. You can not remain indifferent.
