Synopsis

Jess, un garçon issu d'une modeste famille nombreuse et Leslie, fille unique d'un couple d'écrivains, s'inventent un monde imaginaire, Térabithia, pour fuir la réalité de leur vie quotidienne... Mais lorsque cet univers magique prend vie, ils se retrouvent confrontés à des aventures plus périlleuses que ce qu'ils avaient pu imaginer.

Ce que j'en ai pensé

J'ai cru qu'il s'agissait d'un simple film de fantasy divertissant. Je me suis trompée. Ce film est bien plus qu'un banal film d'aventures.
Le secret de Terabithia met en scène deux enfants, un garçon sombre, triste, complexé, seul et une fille excentrique, trop pour s'intégrer. Ensemble, ils vont découvrir l'amitié. Jess qui, jusque-là, était rejeté par les autres enfants de son école, petit canard de sa famille, va se sentir accepté, aimé. Le monde des enfants n'est pas aussi innocent qu'on le croit, il peut être très cruel. Grâce à Leslie, Jess va trouver un exutoire dans l'imagination. Leur grand jeu : s'inventer un autre monde, un monde merveilleux dont ils seraient les rois. Illusion d'un pouvoir qu'ils rêveraient d'avoir plutôt que d'y être soumis. Ils se battent contre de féroces créatures et ainsi se découvrent une force. L'imagination les rend invincibles et heureux. Une parenthèse vivifiante dans leur routine ennuyeuse et déprimante.
Il y a une constante oscillation entre réalité et fantastique, entre conte et tragédie. J'ai été très chamboulée par le dénouement de cette histoire. Le deuil dans un film pour enfants m'a toujours semblé très dur (qui n'a pas pleuré à chaudes larmes devant Bambi ?). Mais, cette fin m'a semblée très juste, très réaliste.
Pour finir, ce film est une leçon de vie et d'amour. Il nous enseigne à croire en nos rêves, à vivre la poésie du monde, à voir au-delà de ce que nous avons sous les yeux. Tout en n'oubliant pas que rien n'est acquis. Le secret de Terabithia est tout simplement bouleversant. Une surprise troublante mais très enrichissante.

My thought

I thought it was a simple enjoyable fantasy movie. I was wrong. This film is much more than a banal adventure film.Bridge to Terabithia shows us two children, a dark, sad, and lonely boy and an eccentric girl, too much to get along with others. Together, they will discover friendship. Jess, who until then had been rejected by the other children of his school, of a family which favors the girs will finally feel accepted and loved. The world of children is not as innocent as it is believed, it can be very cruel. Thanks to Leslie, Jess will find an outlet in imagination. Their favorite game: to invent another world, a wonderful world which they rule. Illusion of a power that they dream of to have rather than being insignificant children. They fight against fierce creatures and so on discover a strength. Imagination makes them invincible and happy. An exhilarating parenthesis in their boring and depressing routine.There is a constant oscillation between reality and fantasy, between tale and tragedy. I was very upset by the outcome of this story. The mourning in a children's film always seemed to me very hard (who did not cry in front of Bambi?). But this end seemed very fair, very realistic.To finish, this film is a lesson of life and love. It teaches us to believe in our dreams, to live the poetry of the world, to see beyond what we have before us. While not forgetting that nothing is granted. Bridge to Terabithia is simply overwhelming. A surprising but very interesting surprise.
