RESUME

A Dublin, une librairie oubliée permet à trois passionnés de livres de se réinventer. Opaline commence une nouvelle vie depuis qu'elle a fui des fiançailles malheureuses, Martha retrouve la liberté après un mariage abusif et Henry saisit la chance de réaliser ses rêves.

La librairie disparue est l'histoire de deux femmes : Opaline et Martha. Deux époques différentes, deux femmes qui fuient l'oppression masculine, deux vies sauvées par les livres et l'irrésistible attraction d'une librairie irlandaise quelque peu magique. A travers ces deux histoires qui s'entremêlent, ce livre aborde des thèmes plus larges : la place de la femme dans la société, l'épanouissement personnel, l'amour. J'ai trouvé l'ensemble à la fois captivant et émouvant. J'ai beaucoup aimé l'atmosphère de ce livre enveloppante et feutrée et ses personnages qui sont très attachants. J'ai également beaucoup apprécié la petite touche fantastique qui est intégrée avec beaucoup de subtilité. Ce roman se lit de façon très fluide avec son écriture simple. La librairie disparue est d'une grande douceur malgré les épreuves affrontées par Opaline et Martha. En effet, les héroïnes sont toujours portées par l'espoir et j'ai trouvé ce roman lumineux. Il encourage à l'optimisme dans l'adversité, à croire en ses rêves et à apprécier les choses simples de la vie. Une très belle lecture !

The Lost Bookshop is the story of two women: Opaline and Martha. Two different eras, two women fleeing male oppression, two lives saved by books and the irresistible allure of a somewhat magical Irish bookshop. Through these two intertwining stories, this book explores broader themes: the place of women in society, personal fulfilment and love. I found the whole thing both captivating and moving. I really loved the book’s cosy, enveloping atmosphere and its very endearing characters. I also greatly appreciated the touch of fantasy, which is woven in with great subtlety. This novel reads very smoothly thanks to its simple prose. The Lost Bookshop is a deeply heart-warming read, despite the trials faced by Opaline and Martha. Indeed, the heroines are always driven by hope, and I found this novel to be a ray of light. It encourages optimism in the face of adversity, believing in one’s dreams, and appreciating the simple things in life. A truly lovely read!
