Ce que j'en ai pensé
Un changement de registre total par rapport à Harry Potter. Absolument, rien à voir. Ici, pas de magie. Une bourgade anglaise tout ce qu'il y a de plus normal. Une place à prendre c'est une fresque de personnages, c'est une fresque humaine. Des humains pas très sympathiques finalement. Plein de vices, égoïstes, égocentriques, hypocrites, menteurs, violents, pathétiques. Le portrait que fait JKR de la société est peu reluisant. Sa plume acérée n'épargne aucun des personnages dont elle relève le moindre défaut, la moindre faiblesse sans pitié. Ce roman, je le vois comme une invitation à ne pas médire, à ne pas juger car nous sommes loin nous-mêmes d'être parfaits. Je n'ai pas particulièrement aimé l'histoire ou les personnages assez détestables. Ce qu'on apprécie dans ce roman c'est le talent de l'auteur pour dépeindre ses personnages. J'ai donc apprécié ce livre car il nous permet de découvrir une autre facette de l'écriture de JKR, une facette sombre, terre à terre, assez pessimiste. JKR peut donc sans souci passer d'un genre à l'autre et je trouve ça impressionnant.

A total change compared to Harry Potter. Absolutely nothing in common. Here, no magic. An English village everything normal. A Casual Vacancy is a fresco of characters, it is a human fresco. Human beings are not very friendly ultimately. Full of vices, selfish, egocentric, violent and pathetic hypocrites and liars. The portrait of society JKR shows is lackluster. Her sharp pen spares no characters pointing out the slightest defect, any weakness mercilessly. This novel, I see it as an invitation not to speak evil, not to judge because we are ourselves very far from being perfect. I did not particularly like the story or the characters which are rather detestable. What we like about this novel is the talent of the author to depict the characters. So I enjoyed this book because it allows us to discover another facet of the writing of JKR, a dark side, down to earth, quite pessimistic. JKR can therefore carefree move from one genre to another and I thinl it's pretty impressive.
