RESUME

Un appartement à New York, quatre jeunes femmes à un tournant de leur vie.

Elles ne se connaissaient pas avant d'emménager en colocation. Aujourd'hui, Claire, Abby, Morgan et Sasha sont les meilleures amies du monde et partagent bien plus qu'un appartement : les joies, les peines, les doutes, les succès… elles les vivent ensemble et se soutiennent les unes les autres. Lire L'Appartement c'est comme regarder une comédie romantique. On parle de feel-good movie ; ici, on pourrait parler de roman feel-good. Nous partageons la vie d'Abbie, Sasha, Claire et Morgan, quatre colocataires à New-York. Toutes quatre sont très attachantes et nous emportent dans le tourbillon de leur vie new-yorkaise. Nous découvrons leurs rêves, leur vie romantique, le tout porté par une amitié indéfectible. L'écriture est simple, fluide. L'histoire n'est pas particulièrement originale. Mais on se sent bien en lisant cela. C'est plaisant, cela nous met le sourire aux lèvres. Et parfois, c'est tout ce dont on a besoin, un peu de bonheur. Un roman d'été qui se savoure comme une boisson sucrée que l'on boirait assise dans un transat dans le jardin. 

SUMMARY

They come together by chance in the heart of New York City, four Young women at turning points in their lives. Claire finds the spacious loft apartment. But the aspiring shoe designer needs at least one roommate to manage the rent. She meets Abby, a writer trying to make it on her own, far from her successful family in L.A. The Morgan joins them. She's ambitious, with a serious finance job on Wall Street. Finally Sasha, a medical student. And so the sprawling space, with its exposed brick and rich natural light, becomes a home to friends about to embark on new exhilarating adventures.

Their shared life in the apartment turns them into a family of beloved friends. But as unexpected opportunities and challenges alter the course of each of their live, they face the bittersweet reality that in time, they will inevitably move away from the place where their dreams began.

MY THOUGHTS

Reading The Apartment is like watching a romantic comedy. We talk about feel-good movies; here we could say it's a feel-good novel. We share the life of Abby, Sasha, Claire and Morgan, four roommates in New York. All four are very endearing and take us into the whirlwind of their New York life. We discover their dreams, their romantic life, all carried by an unwavering friendship. Writing is simple and fluid. The story is not particularly original. But it feels good to read it. It's Pleasant, it makes us smile. And sometimes that's all you need, a little piece of happiness. A summer novel that can be enjoyed like a sweet drink that would be taken sitting in a sunbed in the garden.
