RESUME

Poppy a un appartement de rêve et un boulot de rêve à New York. Elle écrit des articles de voyage et parcourt ainsi la planète tout frais payés par le magazine de luxe qui l'emploie. Mais elle n'est pas heureuse. Poppy est nostalgique des voyages qu'elle faisait avec son meilleur ami Alex à qui elle n'est pas parlé depuis plus d'un an. Et si la recette à son mal-être était de renouer avec Alex, un nouveau voyage pour sauver leur amitié ? Au gré de cette escapade, se déroule en parallèle le fil de leur relation. 

CE QUE J'EN AI PENSE

Ce roman se déguste comme une comédie romantique. On connaît la fin mais ce qui nous fait vibrer c'est le comment. Et il n'y a pas à dire, Emily Henry nous fait passer un moment délicieux en compagnie de Poppy et Alex. Tout oppose ces deux-là. Poppy est excentrique, exubérante, bavarde, bordélique. Alex est réservé, sérieux, introverti, classique. Pourtant, l'alchimie entre eux fonctionne. L'autrice dit s'être inspirée de la comédie Quand Harry rencontre Sally (excellent film d'ailleurs) et il est vrai que ce livre est également une belle illustration des contraires qui s'attirent. Par ailleurs, People we meet on vacation parle voyages, nouvelles expériences, défis. Un roman parfait plein de légèreté à lire pendant les vacances. De l'amour et une pincée de folie. Une recette qui marche. 

SUMMARY

Poppy has a dream flat and a dream job in New York. She writes travel articles and goes around the world all her trips being paid by the magazine she works for. But she's not happy. Poppy is nostalgic for the trips she used to take with her best friend Alex, whom she hasn't spoken to in over a year. What if the solution to her unhappiness was to reconnect with Alex, a new trip to save their friendship? As their journey unfolds, so does the thread of their relationship. 

MY THOUGHTS

This novel feels like a romantic comedy. We know the ending, but what thrills us is the how. And there's no denying it, Emily Henry gives us a delightful time in the company of Poppy and Alex. These two have everything working against them. Poppy is eccentric, exuberant, talkative and messy. Alex is reserved, serious, introverted and classic. Yet the chemistry between them works. The author says she was inspired by the comedy When Harry met Sally (an excellent film, by the way), and it's true that this book is also a fine illustration of how opposites attract. People we meet on vacation is also about travel, new experiences and challenges. A perfect light novel to read on holiday. A lot of love and a pinch of madness. A recipe that works.
