RESUME

Et si les femmes prenaient enfin le pouvoir dans le monde entier ? Aux quatre coins du monde, les femmes découvrent qu'elles détiennent le "pouvoir". Du bout des doigts, elles peuvent infliger une douleur fulgurante. Et même la mort. Soudain, les hommes comprennent qu'ils deviennent le "sexe faible". Mais jusqu'où iront les femmes pour imposer ce nouvel ordre ?

CE QUE J'EN AI PENSE

Le concept d'une dystopie où les femmes prennent le pouvoir était prometteur. Mais l'exécution m'a déçue. Déjà, j'ai eu des difficultés avec l'écriture que j'ai trouvé très froide, presque robotique. Je n'ai perçu aucune sensibilité dans ce livre qui m'a donc semblé manquer cruellement d'humanité. En effet, sans émotion, je n'ai pas réussi à m'attacher aux personnages et sans accroche aux personnages, l'intrigue perd immédiatement de sa saveur à mon sens. Ensuite, c'est long à se mettre en place et le début est quelque peu confus. Et finalement, quand le décor est planté, l'histoire bien lancée, on est déçu par la tournure des évènements. On passe d'un monde violent à un autre monde violent et rien ne semble changer. La loi du plus fort est mise en exergue encore et encore. Peut-être suis-je passée complètement à côté du message de ce livre mais je n'en ai rien tiré si ce n'est un vague sentiment de malaise face à la violence de certaines scènes et un soulagement de l'avoir terminé pour pouvoir passer à autre chose. 

SUMMARY

In The Power the world is a recognizable place: There's a rich Nigerian boy who lounges around the family pool; a foster kid whose religious parents hide their true nature; an ambitious American politician; and a tough London girl from a tricky family. But then a vital new force takes root and flourishes, causing their lives to converge with devastating effect. Teenage girls now have immense physical power: They can cause agonizing pain and even death. With this small twist of nature, the world drastically resets.

MY THOUGHTS

The concept of a dystopia where women take power was promising. But the execution let me down. For a start, I struggled with the writing, which I found very cold, almost robotic. I detected no sensitivity in this book, which therefore seemed to me to be sorely lacking in humanity. Indeed, without emotion, I couldn’t connect with the characters, and without that connection, the plot immediately loses its appeal, in my view. Furthermore, it takes a long time to get going and the beginning is somewhat confusing. And finally, once the scene is set and the story is well underway, one is let down by the turn of events. We move from one violent world to another violent world, and nothing seems to change. The law of the jungle is emphasised time and time again. Perhaps I completely missed the point of this book, but I took nothing from it other than a vague sense of unease at the violence of certain scenes and a sense of relief at having finished it so I could move on to something else.
