Bonjour à toutes et à tous ! Je reviens aujourd'hui vous raconter notre voyage d'une semaine en Slovénie. Nous y sommes partis début juillet et nous avons eu une météo très agréable avec un temps magnifique. Nous y sommes allés depuis l'Italie en voiture après avoir passé une semaine dans les Dolomites.
Hello everyone! I'm back to tell you all about my one-week trip in Slovenia. We went there at the beginning of July and had very nice weather. We went there from Italy by car after having spent a week in the Dolomites.
Jour 1 : Vallée de la Soca / Day 1: Soca River
Arrivant donc par le Nord-Ouest, nous nous sommes tout d'abord arrêtés à Bovec pour déjeuner. Le premier snack que nous avions repéré (Bovska kuhn'ca) ayant été dévalisé à l'heure tardive où nous sommes arrivés, nous nous sommes rabattus sur une autre option également proposée par le Routard : Thirsty River Brewing. Les burgers y étaient délicieux. Nous avons ensuite pris la route 206 en direction de Kranjska Gora. Cette route très sinueuse a l'intérêt de longer la rivière Soca dont l'eau bleu claire cristalline est sublime. Arrêtez-vous au niveau des grandes gorges de la Soca (Velika korita soce), l'endroit est vraiment magnifique.
Arriving from the north-west, we first stopped in Bovec for lunch. As the first snack bar we’d spotted (Bovska kuhn'ca) had been completely sold out by the late hour we arrived, we settled for another option also recommended by Le Routard: Thirst River Brewing. The burgers there were delicious. We then took the 206 towards Kranjska Gora. This very winding road runs alongside the River Soca, whose crystal-clear blue water is stunning. Do stop off at the Great Soca Gorges (Velika korita Soce); the place is truly magnificent.
Avant d'arriver à Kranjska Gora, nous nous sommes arrêtés au lac de Jasna qui est un lac artificiel. L'endroit est agréable pour se délasser en fin de journée au bord de l'eau mais ne vaut pas la peine d'y aller spécifiquement pour le voir. Le soir, nous avons gagné notre logement trouvé sur Booking que je vous recommande chaudement : l'appartement est grand, propre et très bien équipé. Le village de Kranjska Gora est assez mignon et il fait bon d'y séjourner.
Before reaching Kranjska Gora, we stopped at Lake Jasna, which is an artificial lake. It’s a pleasant spot to relax by the water at the end of the day, but it’s not worth making a special trip just to see it. We finally got to our accomodation found on Booking which I highly recommend: the flat is big, clean and very well-equipped. The Kranjska Gora village is quite charming and is very pleasant to stay in.
Jour 2 : le lac de Bled / Day 2: Lake Bled
Nous avons consacré ce deuxième jour au joyau de la Slovénie : le lac de Bled. Ce sont des photographies de ce lac qui m'ont donné envie de visiter ce pays et il est véritablement magnifique. Ces eaux émeraudes entourées de verdure et son île sur laquelle est construite une petite église lui confèrent un charme certain sans compter le château qui le surplombe. Si vous y arrivez le matin, je vous recommanderais de commencer par prendre une barque (20€ par personne) pour vous rendre sur l'île. La visite de l'île en elle-même n'a rien d'extraordinaire d'autant que l'église est payante. C'est véritablement la balade en barque elle-même qui est agréable. Nous avons également fait le tour du lac à pied. La promenade est facile et bien aménagée.
We spent this second day exploring the jewel of Slovenia: Lake Bled. It was photographs of this lake that made me want to visit the country, and it really is magnificent. Its emerald waters, surrounded by lush greenery, and the island with its little church give it a certain charm, not to mention the castle overlooking it. If you arrive in the morning, I’d recommend starting by taking a boat (€20 per person) to the island. The island itself isn’t anything out of the ordinary, especially as there’s an admission charge for the church. It’s really the boat trip itself that’s enjoyable. We also walked around the lake. The walk is easy and well-maintained.
Nous nous sommes arrêtés au Café Belvédère pour déguster un kremna rezina ou kremsnita, la spécialité de la région, avec une vue époustouflante sur le lac. Immanquable ! Moi qui n'aime pas la crème dans les gâteaux, j'ai trouvé que celui-ci était étonnamment bon.
We stopped at Café Belvédère to try a kremna rezina or kremsnita, the local speciality, whilst enjoying a breathtaking view of the lake. Not to be missed! Even though I don’t usually like cream in cakes, I found this one surprisingly good.
L'après-midi était déjà bien avancé lorsque nous avons quitté Bled et nous sommes donc allés manger des burgers chez Foksner près du lac de Bohinj (notez que le restaurant n'ouvre qu'à 16h). Vous pouvez aussi prévoir un pique-nique à manger au bord du lac de Bled avant de vous rendre au lac de Bohinj pour finir l'après-midi et dîner chez Foksner.
It was already well into the afternoon when we left Bled, so we went for burgers at Foksner near Lake Bohinj (note that the restaurant doesn’t open until 4 pm). You could also plan a picnic to enjoy by the shores of Lake Bled before heading to Lake Bohinj to round off the afternoon and have dinner at Foksner.
Notez que le lac de Bohinj mériterait une journée à lui tout seul. En effet, encore plus grand que son voisin, je l'ai trouvé à la fois majestueux et dépaysant. Nous n'avons malheureusement que peu de temps près de ce lac mais en écrivant cet article, je suis tombée sur cet article qui me paraît intéressant si vous voulez consacrer plus de temps à ce lac magnifique.
Bear in mind that Lake Bohinj is well worth a day all to itself. In fact, as it’s even larger than its neighbour, I found it both majestic and a real change of scenery. Unfortunately, we only had a short time by this lake, but there are many hikes you can do around this lake.
Nous avons logé près du lac de Bled dans une ferme. Je ne vous la recommande cependant pas : le logement est petit et très rustique. Les hôtes sont certes très gentils et le petit-déjeuner bon mais cela ne justifie clairement pas le prix. Je vous recommanderais plutôt de rester dormir plus longtemps à Kranjska Gora (35 minutes de route seulement de Bled).
We stayed near Lake Bled in a farm. However, I wouldn’t recommend it: the accommodation is small and very rustic. The hosts are certainly very friendly and the breakfast is good, but that clearly doesn’t justify the price. I’d recommend staying longer in Kranjska Gora instead (just a 35-minute drive from Bled).
Jour 3 / Day 3 : Radovljica & Skofja Loka
Nous avons débuté la journée par la visite du musée de l'apiculture situé à Radovljica, petit village tout à fait charmant. L'apiculture est d'une importance notable en Slovénie : on y compte 1 apiculteur pour 200 habitants. Ce petit musée est très intéressant et vaut une visite.
We started the day with a visit to the beekeeping museum in Radovljica, a charming little village. Beekeeping is of considerable importance in Slovenia: there is one beekeeper for every 200 inhabitants. This little museum is very interesting and well worth a visit.
La suite de notre programme ne nous a toutefois pas convaincus. Nous avons certes déjeuné dans un restaurant plutôt bon nommé Na Vasi. Les plats ne sont cependant pas très typiques et les prix sont quand même relativement élevés.
The rest of our itinerary, however, did not really impress us. We did, admittedly, have lunch at a rather good restaurant called Na Vasi. The dishes, however, weren’t very traditional and the prices were still relatively high.
Nous sommes ensuite allés au village de Skofja Loka. Celui-ci est petit et on en fait le tour assez rapidement avec une vue sur la rivière qui y passe assez jolie.
We then went to the village of Skofja Loka. It’s small and you can walk round it quite quickly, with a rather pretty view of the river that runs through it.
Nous y sommes allés surtout pour visiter le château qui était recommandé par Le Routard. Nous avons été assez déçus toutefois. Le château a été converti en musée dont chaque salle est censée illustrer un aspect de la Slovénie allant de sa faune à ses sportifs olympiques en passant par ses broderies traditionnelles. Ce n'est pas inintéressant, toutefois c'est décousu et de mon point de vue cela ne vaut pas le détour hormis si vous logez pas loin et que vous avez beaucoup de temps libre. Je vous recommanderais plutôt de passer le reste de la journée au lac de Bohinj ou de vous rendre à Velika Planina, un alpage a priori magnifique où nous n'avons pas été devant les prix relativement élevés du télécabine alors que nous venions des Dolomites où nous avions déjà pu profiter d'un magnifique alpage. Cependant, vu les photographies, cela vaut certainement le coup d'oeil. Le soir, nous avons rallié Ljubjana où nous avons séjourné dans un AirBnb absolument génial que je vous recommande mille fois. L'appartement est joli, propre, très bien agencé avec une cuisine équipée et une très belle salle de bains. L'hôte nous avait laissé des cookies, une énorme corbeille de fruits et de la liqueur. Enfin, l'appartement est très lumineux grâce à sa grande fenêtre avec une vue superbe sur les montagnes au loin.
We went there mainly to visit the castle, which had been recommended by Le Routard. We were rather disappointed, though. The castle has been converted into a museum, with each room intended to illustrate an aspect of Slovenia, ranging from its wildlife to its Olympic athletes and traditional embroidery. It’s not without interest, but it’s rather disjointed and, in my view, not worth a visit unless you’re staying nearby and have plenty of free time. I’d recommend spending the rest of the day at Lake Bohinj instead, or heading to Velika Planina, a mountain pasture that looks absolutely stunning – though we didn’t go there because of the relatively high cable car fares, especially as we’d just come from the Dolomites where we’d already enjoyed a magnificent mountain pasture. However, judging by the photos, it’s certainly worth a look. In the evening, we made our way to Ljubljana, where we stayed in a great Airbnb that I can’t recommend highly enough. The flat is lovely, clean and very well laid out, with a fully equipped kitchen and a beautiful bathroom. The host had left us some biscuits, a huge basket of fruit and some liqueur. Finally, the flat is very light and airy thanks to its large window, which offers a superb view of the mountains in the distance.
Jour 4 / Day 4 : Ljubjana
Nous avons consacré cette journée à la visite du centre-ville de Ljubjana. Pour nous y rendre, nous sommes passés par Metelkova, un quartier où vous trouverez de magnifiques fresques murales. Toutefois, l'endroit est mal fréquenté.
We spent the day exploring Ljubljana city centre. On our way there, we passed through Metelkova, a neighbourhood where you’ll find some magnificent murals. However, it’s a bit of a dodgy area.
Nous avons ensuite traversé le fameux pont des dragons avant de nous diriger vers la place principale : Mestni Trg où se trouve l'hôtel de ville. Allez jeter un oeil à sa cour intérieure assez étonnante.
We then crossed the famous Dragon Bridge before heading towards the main square: Mestni Trg, where the town hall is located. Do pop in and have a look at its rather surprising inner courtyard.
Nous nous sommes ensuite promenés dans les rues de la capitale slovène en passant sur le Triple Pont, oeuvre de l'architecte Plecnik. J'ai été étonnée par la très petite taille de Ljubjana. La visite de la ville peut tout à fait se faire en une demi-journée. Vous trouverez quelques très beaux édifices Art Nouveau.
We then strolled through the streets of the Slovenian capital, crossing the Triple Bridge, designed by the architect Plecnik. I was surprised by just how small Ljubljana is. You can easily see the whole city in half a day and you'll come across some beautiful Art Nouveau buildings.
Nous avons décidé de ne pas visiter le château car la visite de celui-ci était chère et le commentaire du Routard ne nous a pas convaincus. Nous avons déjeuné de fruits de mer chez Vino & Ribe, un délice ! Leur thé glacé est aussi à tomber.
We decided not to visit the castle as the admission fee was expensive and the review in the Routard guide didn’t convince us. We had a seafood lunch at Vino & Ribe – absolutely delicious! Their iced tea is also to die for.
Nous avons ensuite pris une glace chez Di Matteo gelato. Je n'ai pas été conquise par les glaces mais mon copain a beaucoup aimé donc je vous laisserai vous faire votre opinion. Nous sommes allés jusqu'au quartier du Krakovo au sud, recommandé par le Routard qui n'a rien d'extraordinaire de mon point de vue et n'en vaut pas la peine.
We then had an ice cream at Di Matteo Gelato. I wasn’t particularly impressed by the ice creams, but my boyfriend really liked them, so I’ll leave you to make up your own mind. We went as far as the Krakovo district in the south, recommended by the Routard guide, which I didn’t find particularly special and don’t think is worth going.
Jour 5 / Day 5 : Ljubjana
Nous avons débuté cette deuxième journée dans la capitale par un brunch au Ek bistrot qui est excellent !
We started our second day in the capital with brunch at Ek Bistrot, which is excellent!
Nous sommes ensuite allés visiter la Galerie nationale. J'ai été un peu déçue car la section sur le XIXème siècle était fermée. Or, c'était la période qui m'intéressait le plus. Si cette section est ouverte, n'hésitez pas à y aller car les oeuvres qui s'y trouvent semblent vraiment très belles.
We then went to visit the National Gallery. I was a bit disappointed because the 19th-century section was closed. That was actually the period I was most interested in. If that section is open, do make sure you visit it, as the artworks on display there look absolutely stunning.
Après la visite, nous avons marché dans le parc du Tivoli juste à côté jusqu'à un petit lac (Lesena Poskad) près duquel nous avons bu un verre au Lokus Cafe. Cette balade n'avait cependant aucun intérêt : le parc n'est vraiment pas très joli et le lac n'a rien d'incroyable.
After the visit, we walked through Tivoli Park, which is right next door, to a small lake (Lesena Poskad), where we had a drink at Lokus Café. However, this walk wasn’t particularly interesting: the park isn’t really very pretty and the lake is nothing to write home about.
Nous sommes donc revenus vers le centre-ville où nous avons acheté du pain pour notre repas du soir dans une boulangerie que je vous recommande qui s'appelle OSEM bakery. Nous avons ensuite goûter au potica, un gâteau aux noix, à Le Potica. J'ai adoré ! Et nous sommes également allés tester les trompe-l'oeil de Fetiche Patisserie qui sont très bons. Je garde une préférence toutefois pour le Potica. J'aurais pu en manger dix.
So we headed back towards the city centre, where we bought some bread for our evening meal at a bakery I’d recommend called OSEM Bakery. We then tried some potica, a walnut cake, at Le Potica. I loved it! And we also went to try the trompe-l’oeil pastries at Fetiche Patisserie, which were very good. I still prefer the potica, though. I could have eaten ten of them.
Rétrospectivement, nous aurions pu fusionner nos deux journées à Ljubjana : débuter par un brunch au Ek bistrot puis visiter la Galerie nationale avant de flâner dans le centre-ville en dégustant des poticas et finir la journée par un dîner chez Vino & Ribe.
Looking back, we could have combined our two days in Ljubljana: started with brunch at Ek Bistrot, then visited the National Gallery before strolling through the city centre whilst sampling some poticas, and rounded off the day with dinner at Vino & Ribe.
Jour 6 / Day 6: Piran
Nous avons terminé notre voyage en Slovénie par la très belle ville côtière de Piran. Longtemps sous domination vénitienne, la ville a gardé de cette période son architecture avec un campanile qui n'est pas sans rappeler son cousin de La Sérénissime. Il règne dans cette ville un charme suranné et il fait bon y flâner.
We rounded off our trip to Slovenia with a visit to the beautiful coastal town of Piran. Having been under Venetian rule for many years, the town has retained its architecture from that period, including a bell tower that is rather reminiscent of its counterpart in La Serenissima. The town exudes an old-world charm and is a lovely place to wander around.
Nous nous sommes garés au parking de Fiesa à 30 minutes de marche du centre-ville mais a priori le moins cher. Nous avons déjeuné à la Ribja kantin'ca d'un plateau de fruits de mer.
We parked at the Fiesa car park, a 30-minute walk from the town centre but apparently the cheapest option. We had lunch at Ribja kantin’ca, where we enjoyed a seafood platter.
Nous sommes ensuite voir la magnifique place principale Tartini.
We then went to see the magnificent Tartini Square.
Nous sommes montés à la cathédrale Saint-Georges que nous n'avons pas visitée (payante) mais dont nous avons pu voir l'intérieur derrière la grille. L'esplanade devant l'église offre une très belle vue sur la côte et l'Italie en face.
We walked up to St George’s Cathedral, which we didn’t visit (as there’s an admission charge), but we were able to see inside through the gates. The esplanade in front of the church offers a stunning view of the coast and Italy across the water.
Nous avons ensuite dégusté de très bonnes glaces de Mersii Gelato avant d'aller nous poser sur la plage de Piran où il est possible de se baigner. Enfin, nous avons bu un verre sur l'une des terrasses face à la mer. La Dolce Vita !
We then enjoyed some delicious ice cream from Mersii Gelato before heading to Piran beach, where you can go for a swim. Finally, we had a drink on one of the terraces overlooking the sea. La Dolce Vita!
Le soir nous avons dormi dans un appartement à Portoroz que je ne vous recommande pas car le rapport qualité-prix n'était pas terrible : l'appartement était cher avec une cuisine mal équipée et la salle de bains n'était pas hyper propre. Je vous recommanderais plutôt de passer une dernière nuit dans l'appartement de Ljubjana. J'avais toutefois préféré dormir près de Piran car le lendemain matin, nous devions faire la route de Piran jusqu'à Gaillard près de Genève où nous faisions étape sur la route du retour.
That evening we stayed in a flat in Portorož, which I wouldn’t recommend as it wasn’t great value for money: the flat was expensive, the kitchen was poorly equipped and the bathroom wasn’t particularly clean. I’d recommend spending one last night in the flat in Ljubljana instead. However, I had preferred to stay near Piran because the next morning we had to drive from Piran to Gaillard, near Geneva, where we were stopping off on our way home.
