La légende raconte qu'il existerait neuf mondes, reliés par Yddgrasil, le frêne puissant et parfait. C'est là le théâtre des aventures d'Odin, le plus grand et ancien dieu, Père de tout : de son fils aîné Thor, fort et tumultueux, armé de Mjollnir, son légendaire marteau ; et de Loki, séduisant, rusé et manipulateur inégalable. Dieux trop humains, parfois sages, souvent impétueux, quelquefois tricheurs, ils guerroient, se défient et se trahissent. Jusqu'à Ragnarök, la fin de toutes choses.

CRITIQUE

Ce livre était sur ma liste de livres que je voulais lire depuis longtemps. Etant donné que je regarde la série Viking ces temps-ci, je me suis dit que c'était le moment idéal pour me plonger dans la mythologie viking. Je ne crois pas avoir déjà lu de contes nordiques ou peut-être quand j'étais petite. Mais j'ai toujours été fascinée par la civilisation viking. A vrai dire, je suis fascinée par toutes les civilisations et l'Histoire me passionne. J'adore les mythologies. Je trouve ça toujours incroyable de lire ces histoires qui ont traversé les siècles et qui témoignent de la spiritualité et des croyances des peuples de l'époque. 

Neil Gaiman rassemble ici les mythes nordiques et nous les raconte avec sa plume enchanteresse qui nous emporte dans un voyage dans les neufs mondes. Les histoires sont toutes merveilleuses, drôles et nous laissent rêveurs. Le livre est trop court à mon goût. J'aurais aimé rester plus longtemps aux côtés des Dieux nordiques, en savoir plus sur eux, découvrir les divinités secondaires. 

Ainsi, ce livre est une porte d'entrée plaisante dans l'univers de la mythologie nordique. Mais je n'ai qu'une envie maintenant : trouver d'autres récits des aventures des dieux des vikings !

REVIEW

That book was on my list to read for a long time. Since I've been watching Viking, the TV show lately, I thought it was the perfect time to dive in the Viking mythology. I don't think I've ever read Nordic stories or maybe when I was little. But I've always been fascinated by the viking civilization. In fact, I am fascinated by all civilizations and I am passionate about history. I love mythologies. I always find it incredible to read these stories that still reach us today, centuries from when they were born, witnesses to the spirituality and beliefs of the peoples of that time.

Neil Gaiman gathers here the Nordic myths and tells them to us with his enchanting pen that takes us on a journey to the nine worlds. The stories are wonderful, funny and leave us dreamy. The book is too short for my taste. I wish I could have stayed longer alongside the Nordic Gods, getting to know them better, discovering the secondary deities. Thus, this book is a Pleasant gateway into the universe of Nordic mythology. And now, my only desire is to find other stories about the adventures of the Viking's gods.
