CRITIQUE : UNE FEMME D'EXCEPTION
Une femme d'exception retrace le parcours hors du commun de Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Cette dernière est mariée et mère d'une petite fille lorsqu'elle entre à Harvard, en droit, où elle est l'une des neuf femmes dans une classe de 500 étudiants. Elle réussit ses études brillamment et finit diplômée de Columbia, première de sa promotion. Néanmoins, malgré son parcours exceptionnel, elle n'est pas épargnée par le sexisme du monde du travail des années 60. Ayant été confrontée toute sa vie à la discrimination de genre, Ruth Bader Ginsburg décide d'agir et prend en main, avec son mari, une affaire fiscale qui pourrait potentiellement ouvrir la voie vers la disparition de la discrimination sexuelle de la législation.
Dans Une femme d'exception, ce n'est pas seulement Ruth Bader Ginsburg qui est mise en lumière mais aussi son époux Martin Ginsburg et le couple égalitaire qu'ils forment. Armie Hammer incarne l'époux idéal, féministe, intelligent, soutenant sa femme dans ses aspirations et ses combats et partageant à égalité avec elle les tâches domestiques. Ruth Bader Ginsburg, jouée quant à elle par Felicity Jones, apparait comme une femme opiniâtre, une travailleuse acharnée et consciencieuse, intelligente et courageuse.
Ce biopic féministe est tout à fait captivant et extrêmement émouvant. Ce film scénarisé par le neveu de Ruth Bader Ginsburg dresse un portrait très inspirant de cette femme exceptionnelle et l'on comprend aisément l'engouement populaire qu'elle suscite Outre-Atlantique. Ruth Bader Ginsburg, aujourd'hui âgée de 87 ans, est juge à la cour Suprême des Etats-Unis depuis maintenant plus de 26 ans. Elle qui avait vu sa mère mourir d'un cancer alors qu'elle était au lycée, a vu son mari mourir d'un cancer en 2010 et a survécu elle-même à 3 cancers. Ruth Bader Ginsburg est véritablement une femme extraordinaire et maintenant qu'Une femme d'exception me l'a fait découvrir, je suis avide d'en savoir plus sur elle, sur son combat et sur sa vie.
La réalisation d'Une femme d'exception est classique, l'importance est accordée à cette femme et à son parcours. Les costumes sont très beaux et nous font traverser le début de la seconde moitié du XXème siècle aux côtés de Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
Un film à voir donc pour découvrir une femme extraordinaire et inspirante.
REVIEW : ON THE BASIS OF SEX
On the Basis of Sex follows the remarkable journey of Ruth Bader Ginsburg. The latter is married and a mother of a little girl when she gets into Harvard law where she is one of the nine women in a class of 500 students. She does really well in her studies and ends up with a degree from Columbia as the first of her class. In spite of her exceptional academical journey, she's not spared by the the sexism in the workplace in the 60s. Ruth Bader Ginsburg decides to act and takes on a fiscal case with her husband, a case which could change the law in regards to the sexual discrimination.
In On the Basis of Sex, it isn't only Ruth Bader Ginsburg that is highlighted but also her husband Martin Ginsburg and the egalitarian couple they form. Armie Hammer embodies the ideal husband, feminist, intelligent, supportin his wife's aspirations and her fights and sharing equally the domestic tasks. Ruth Bader Ginsburg, played by Felicity Jones, appears as a very determined woman, a hard-worker, consciencious, intelligent and courageous.
This feminist biopic is absolutely captivating and extremely moving. The portrait of this exceptional woman, written by her nephew, is very inspiring and we easily understand the popular enthusiasm she generates in the United States. Ruth Bader Ginsburg, now 87 years old, has been an associate justice at the Supreme court for more than 26 years now. She who had seen her mother dying from cancer while she was in highschool, saw her husband dying of a cancer in 2010 and survived herself to 3 cancers. Ruth Bader Ginsburg is truly an extraordinary woman and now I discovered her in On the Basis of sex, I'm eager to know more about her, her fight and her life.
The direction of On the Basis of Sex is classic, all the focus is on this woman and her journey. The costumes are beautiful and accompany us through the beginning of the second half of the 20th century with Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
A film you must see to discover this amazing and inspiring woman.
