CRITIQUE : TOLKIEN REALISE PAR DOME KARUKOSKI

Le film Tolkien nous raconte les jeunes années de John Ronald Reuel Tolkien depuis la mort de ses parents à la Première Guerre Mondiale. C'est l'histoire d'un jeune homme à l'esprit rêveur et à l'imagination fertile. C'est l'histoire d'une confrérie, d'un cercle de quatre gentlemen unis dans une amitié indéfectible par le goût de l'art. C'est l'histoire de la construction d'un homme devenu un monument de la littérature fantasy.

Dans Tolkien nous plongeons dans l'atmosphère de l'Angleterre du début du XXème siècle, de ses écoles privées et de ses collèges et assistons aux réunions de la Tea Club Barrovian Society, T. C. B. S. pour les intimes. Ce cercle est composé de quatre jeunes hommes épris de poésie, de musique, de peinture et de littérature. Quatre garçons audacieux et plein de rêves. Le film recrée à merveille leur univers et nous immerge dans cette époque qui a inspirée Tolkien. Ce biopic nous fait cheminer à la frontière entre les deux mondes de l'écrivain, celui bien réel de sa formation académique et de l'épreuve de la Première Guerre Mondiale et celui, imaginaire de ses légendes épiques, de ses dessins et de ses visions fantastiques. A la frontière des deux, un esprit brillant capable, chose extraordinaire, d'inventer des langues tant sa connaissance philologique est profonde et son imagination sans limite. 

Mais Tolkien n'est pas seulement un film à propos d'un génie et de ses brillants amis. C'est aussi le récit d'une merveilleuse histoire d'amour entre le futur écrivain et la jeune Edith Pratt incarnée de façon charmante et intelligente par Lily James. L'alchimie entre les deux jeunes gens est palpable.

Enfin, Tolkien est un film profondément poignant rempli d'émotions et de poésie. Un hommage vibrant à un homme brillant et fascinant de par sa finesse d'esprit, sa sensibilité, son imagination prolifique, son goût et son talent pour les mots.

Tolkien tells us the young years of John Ronald Reuel Tolkien from the death of his parents to the first World War. It's the story of a man with a dreamy spirit and a fertile imagination. It's the story of a fellowship, a circle of four gentlemen united in an unwavering friendship by their taste for art. It's the story of how a man who became a monument of fantasy was built.

In Tolkien, we dwelve into the atmosphere of England in the beginning of the XXth century, its privates schools and its colleges and we attend meetings of the Tea Club Barrovian Society, T. C. B. S. for intimates. This circle is formed by four young men fond of poetry, music, paintings and literature. Four bold men full of dreams. This film recreates perfectly their universe and immerse ourselves in this time which inspired Tolkien. This biopic makes us travel at the boundary of the two worlds of the writer, the one very real of his academic background and the horror of the First World War and the imaginary one filled with his epic legends, his drawings and his fantastic visions. At the border of the two, is a brilliant spirit capable, extraordinarily, to invent languages as his knowledge of philology is so vast and his imagination without limits. 

But Tolkien isn't just a film about a genius and his brilliant friends. It's also the story of a wonderful love story between the future writer and the young Edith Pratt embodied charmingly and cleverly by Lily James. The alchemy between the two is tangible. 

Finally, Tolkien is a profundly poignant, filled with emotions and poetry. A vibrant tribute to a brilliant and fascinating man in regards to his sharpness of mind, his sensibility, his prolific imagination, his taste and talent for words.
